Tajan, wave
The Island of Tajan emerges coyly from the waters extending between the islands of Lastovo and Korčula. Above water, it may not seem so interesting to seafarers, but divers know of the beauty and diversity found in its depths – tunnels and passages, hidden caves, light reflected in its blue waters, amazing coral reefs and a rich marine life rarely to be found elsewhere.

Diving tips

Anchoring is at the plateau that drops to 7 m and descent is along the anchoring line to the plateau and entrance to the cave, which is wide enough for two divers, and then on to the hall, which can accommodate 4 to 5 divers. The seabed is fine sand, so use of fins will reduce visibility. There are two exits to the cave, a smaller one to the east, and a larger one to the north. The latter allows for further exploration of the coral reef at 80 m, followed by a gradual ascent and decompression stop at the anchoring line.

Marine life

The waters around Tajan abound in caves and crevices which are home to European and spiny lobsters, mullet, axillary wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, damselfish and groupers. Bushy colonies of Cladocora caespitosa coral are found in deeper waters.
